As of June 2006, the rack price of ethanol was $3.58 versus $2.22 for unleaded gasoline--a difference of $1.36 per gallon. The rack price of ethanol in April, May, and June more than doubled the price in those respective months of last year. The ethanol rack price was 54 cents higher in June compared to the price in May due to demand continuing to exceed supply. Demand is high as a result of the phase out of MTBE.
