Nebraska's production by county is best represented by the map. The darkest areas produced the largest quantities in 2012. Historical numbers are in the following table. Totals can be viewed in the report Natural Gas Production.

Natural gas production has been falling since 2008, which was the year that natural gas production peaked at 3,083,488 thousand cubic feet and the price of natural gas began decreasing.

Since 2008, Chase County has been the leader in natural gas production of all the counties. In 2012, Chase County again is the leader with Cheyenne County close behind.
