As of March 2009, the United States had the nameplate capacity to produce 12,375.4 million (12.4 billion) gallons of ethanol, the operating production capacity to produce 10,358.4 million (10.4 billion) gallons of ethanol, and had construction or expansion plans for an additional 2,066 million (2.1 billion) gallons. There were 193 refineries. If no operating production capacity is listed in the table below, the plant has been idled. Nebraska's nameplate capacity was 1,169 million gallons, or 9 percent, of the nation's nameplate capacity. Nebraska's operating production capacity was 1,001 million gallons, or 10 percent, of the nation's operating production capacity. Nebraska had construction or expansion plans for an additional 432 million gallons of capacity. |
