established by the State of Nebraskas Energy Office and constructed
by a Certified Builder.
How
Can You Buy or Build a GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM?
- A GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM must be constructed by a home builder that has been trained as a
GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified BuilderSM. Certification is conducted by the State of Nebraska's Energy Office, the Nebraska State Homebuilders Association and the Nebraska Green Building Council which includes certified home builders.

How
to Design a GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM
- Work with your Certified Green Builder to design your home to meet
the requirements of the GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM Program
- Submit your home’s plans and specifications for review and approval
to Lynn Chamberlin in the Nebraska Energy Office. Be sure to include
documentation such as manufacturer specifications and product literature
for all GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified BuildingSM items selected on the worksheet.
- After approval, you will receive an approval letter from the Nebraska
Energy Office that includes a checklist of items on which the approval
is based, along with a list of Nebraska Home Energy Raters who can complete
on-site construction inspections. All approved GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified BuildingSM items
listed on Form G-l that are to be included in the home must be visually
inspected by a Nebraska Energy Office representative or a Nebraska
Home Energy Rater.
- Proceed with the construction of the home.
- Any revisions to items in the home that may affect the GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM
Certification must be submitted to the Energy Office for review prior
to installation. Approved revisions will be made to the home’s checklist/verification
form and forwarded to the homeowner, home builder and the selected Home
Energy Rater.
- Following construction, a Home Energy Rating completed by a certified
Nebraska Home Energy Rater must becompleted. The rating must include
a blower door test to ensure that the homes actual performance rates
a minimum of a five-star Home
Energy Rating.
- Submit a copy of the completed Home Energy Rating and the checklist
to Lynn Chamberlin in the Nebraska Energy Office.
- When the Rating and the checklist are received, the Energy Office
will supply the home builder with the final home certification and a
metal GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM plaque to affix to your
new home

Affordable
GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM
A Building America grant funded the design of several very energy efficient homes at affordable prices appropriate for Nebraska’s climate. This grant was made available through the U.S. Department of Energy's State Energy Program - Special Projects. This project resulted in construction plans that include floor and technical details and specifications for three homes.
Traditional Ranch Home #1
This traditional ranch style home has three bedrooms, two baths, attached garage and a full basement. This 1,248 square foot home has been designed to maximize energy efficiency and incorporate GREEN BUILDING-Nebraska Certified HomeSM techniques and materials.
